Approximately 4,500-acre OC Parks wilderness area with canyons, oak and sycamore habitat, and more than 30 miles of official trails.
Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park is an approximately 4,500-acre OC Parks wilderness park with more than 30 miles of official trails across Aliso and Wood canyons. The park includes mature oaks, sycamores, elderberry trees, two year-round streams, and designated wildlife sanctuary habitat.
The variety is real: canyon-floor routes, ridge trails, shaded riparian sections, and ocean-facing views all sit within the same park system. It works for shorter walks or longer trail days, as long as you choose the route carefully and check current closures after rain.
Use the official OC Parks trail map before starting. Park hours are 7 a.m. to sunset, and the Awma Road parking lot is accessed via Alicia Parkway. Trails may close for three days or more after rain, so verify conditions before driving over.
This is not a no-cost parking stop: OC Parks lists a $3 daily parking fee. Weekend lots fill, ridge sections are exposed, and trail junctions can be confusing without a map.
Start early on a weekday, bring water, and choose a canyon-floor route if heat or sun exposure is a concern.
