An editorial publication for people who actually live in Orange County — or want to.
Most "OC content" online is one of two things. It's either copy-pasted Top 10 lists with no point of view, or it's real estate agents writing neighborhood guides as a thinly-disguised lead funnel. Venture: Orange County is supposed to be the third option.
Venture is an editorial publication covering all 34 Orange County cities. City guides, neighborhood profiles, things to do, businesses worth knowing about, and stories about the places that make OC distinctive — written for people who care about how things actually work here, not for tourists with three days to fill.
The voice is direct. We'll tell you when somewhere is overrated, when a "must-see" doesn't justify the parking, and when the tradeoff of moving to a particular city is worse than the marketing suggests. Useful information, not hype. If the answer is "skip it," we say so.
Venture is edited and written by Ethan Hauptli, a writer and licensed California real estate professional. The publication is independent — it isn't sponsored by, owned by, or operated as part of a brokerage. Editorial decisions belong to the publication.
The connection to real estate is real and worth disclosing upfront: the same person who writes the city guides is also a licensed agent (CA DRE #02191280, Real Broker). For readers actively buying, selling, or relocating, that practice has its own page at /real-estate. For everyone else, Venture is a publication you can read without a sales pitch.
A few things readers can expect:
We ground claims in real sources. California State Parks data, school district ratings, county property records, named newspapers, primary documents. When numbers appear in our writing, they have provenance. Our Editorial Standards lay out the methodology in detail.
We disclose AI assistance. Some of our writing is drafted with the help of language models and then edited, fact-checked, and verified by a human before publishing. We don't pretend otherwise.
We correct mistakes. If something is wrong, we fix it on the page and note the change. Reach us at editorial@ventureoc.com or use the Corrections form.
We label paid placements. Sponsored content, affiliate links, and ad-supported features are clearly tagged — see Advertising Disclosures. Editorial features are selected on editorial judgment, not paid for.
We follow fair housing law. Neighborhood and city writing avoids steering, demographic targeting, and any language that could imply preference based on protected class. The Legal Disclosures page covers the full posture.
Venture is still being built. New cities, neighborhood profiles, businesses, and seasonal events keep getting added. If you live somewhere worth covering and we haven't gotten to it yet — or if we got something wrong on a place you know well — tell us.
The most useful version of OC content is the one written by people who actually live here. That's the one we're trying to be.
